Ready for the works council elections and the 2026 World Cup?

Betriebsratswahlen, Fussball-Weltmeisterschaft

It’s that time again – the World Cup is just a few months away! While the world’s best teams battle it out for the title, companies and employers should not lose sight of the fact that works council elections are coming up this year. Just like in football, preparing for a works council election requires a good strategy and a strong team!

Works council elections 2026 – what needs to be considered?

Works council elections will take place in spring 2026 in accordance with the provisions of the Works Constitution Act (BetrVG), and employers and works councils should already be taking action now.

Here are some important points to consider in preparation:

  • Preparations for the election: Ensure that all necessary information for the election is (or can be) provided. This includes the election regulations, timely invitations to the election meeting and information on those eligible to vote.
  • Draw up a schedule of deadlines and procedures. Make sure you comply with all the deadlines prescribed by law. Documents submitted too late or improper election procedures can lead to legal problems.
  • Training for managers: Raise awareness among your managers of the importance of co-determination and the rights and obligations within the Works Constitution Act.
  • Transparent communication: Open discussions about the importance of the works council and the election processes promote trust and commitment.

Use the time leading up to the works council elections to prepare well. An effective works council can not only promote cooperation within the company, but also strengthen your team in the workplace.
